No, you might be right. I think we started in January of 2011 now that I remember our "about page" so 11 years next month. Forums opened first, then the site :)

Well, it all happened shortly after 9/11 and T.F. went belly up, did it not.

I was thinking ten, something I noticed a couple of months back seemed that way. I don't remember what it was.

Just think how many tears this place has dried up over the years. Probably well into the thousands of people been helped and thats not even thinking about the Tweakfile section.

Congrats and Thank you to all involved :)

A beta of the site was put online IIRC in Dec or earlier of 2001 but I remember just clicking an old TF url in Jan 2002 and getting that beta site and signing up and posting, in which Tim and Jim mentioned it was a test and live site was due later and here we are today.

I think and going via the member list I was the first apart from test account and Tim and Jim to sign up on 6th Jan 2002 at member #8 then followed by a number of old TFers and 3Dfilers (Barry aka Mr Phantom included) in the first to sign up, most of the first page of members are either not on the forum or not actually on forums these days, grown up and seen the diaper's etc.

SO yeah 2012 is the 10th year of MG.

    WOW tempus fugit or what!!!!

Congrats Tim and Jim for a site well done and top-notch forums. I did visit and downloaded files from TF but didn't realize there was a forum there. I joined MG on Nov 2002 and was mainly lurking before I started chiming in. There were some funny threads in the Lounge - dancing chicken, in particular, photochops, etc.. Come a long way since then.

Keep up the good work .... :) :major

I was a lurker from very early on but was definitely not a geek so did not join until much later.

Jim and Tim ( and you David ) made this into the site it is today where people of all abilities can get the help they need.
So congratulations to all members from those early days.

Hey thanks guys for the kind words, the place to work from was all Tim and Jims work and what a great idea having it in the military theme was!!! but it is not all me and never will be, yes I may play a big part on the forum, but their are many many other members that also deserve a shoutout and there will be way too many to mention, but a few are

Chaslang (Charlie) wow what can you say about Charlie that is PG13 ;) nah just kidding, Chas has been a massive driving force here and the Malware forum and guides he has produced have served many a few million + users world wide in removing malware from their PCs and in a simple effective way that anyone can use.

His team of.......paused here as the image of Robin Hood and his Merry Men came to mind and TBH thats a good thought as Charlie, with TimW, Emma, the two Kevins, Filipos et al have robbed many a PC of the malware they contain.

In the other forum areas, we have LauraR who wow had taken on moderating as a new challenge and she has done this thankless job with style and compassion to those that are new and old that may not know how a forum works and hpow you should converse with others, while this medium of a faceless person behind the keyboard is a great way to be yourself, in some cases "yourself" is an a-s-s to be blunt and those members are weeded out and with some guidance from the like of Laura they can and in many cases do calm down.

Teresa (aka Abbysue) well always missed when she is busy IRL but is the most wonderful person I have met online, has a level of genuine care for all people, but can be firm but fair when needed as she does not suffer fools lightly and is a forum Admin above many others for her insight into human behaviour and seeing potential in others. Again very missed when she is not on the forum but I know she sneeks in on occasion.

I on the other hand wizz around all the forum like a Tasmanian devil, to be honest the bruises from hitting the walls, doors and the odd beer case are taking there toll on me these days, but its a great experience for me to meet many new folk from all around the world in which without the internet of a good forum base to do this from you would never get to chat with some fantastic people and learn new cultures, opinions and see a great gun collection from FredG.

Their are many other great mods of the forum, Philipp (keeps the place going from the back room) Ace, Kodo, Adryn, Goldfish et al.

Now the big bit of my post and its to all of you members, and with out the fantastic core membership we have here on MG a forum would not be a forum at all, the characters are wide and vast as they are in locality and ethnicity, this is a good thing as we all get to see and hear about the worlds at large from real people and not just the news media who skirt over the real stories at times.

The goal of the forum is to help PC users be they novice or expert in issues computing related and to not judge like some forums do the simple questions that may have been asked a million times, and the simple docterine is "if you dont ask how can you learn" and this has made this forum into the best I know of for all age ranges and knowledges.

But all of this can never be done by just Tim, Jim, Me and the rest of the admin/mod team, it has to be all of us. So thank you all for the help in helping others.

So here is to another 10yrs :)

I second that. You guys are all great! I've learned a vast amount from all of you(whether it be my questions answered or someone else's). I came here an infant in IT and I feel like maybe a small child in it :)( Hopefully, you guys understand that.) I'm still learning and have actually set my career choice in IT partly because I found this site and the amazing people who post/mod this site. I hope this is around for another 10 years+.
