    Yeah, I went through similar thoughts when I was in my 40's. Then when I reached my 50's, I realized it was mostly true rolleyes.

    I've got this theory: You don't get old unless you think you're getting old.

    I even wrote a short story about the subject - an experiment was performed on a child, in which his entire education and environment was purged of any concept of old age, and he never aged, until...well, I won't give away the punch line.

    My point: If you're fishing and drinking beer with family and/or friends on your 46th birthday (and enjoying it), your main focus should be on planning on doing the same for your 56th birthday, and your 66th, and so on and so on, ad nauseam...
