Happy Birthday to the birthday announcer! I think I'm a day late...or maybe 2 days if you figure the time zones. I hope you had a nice one.

    Oh no. :(
I just sent him an email. I hope he is okay. The fact that he hasn't been her since February is definitely not good. I'll let you all know if I hear back via email.

I wonder if he had a FB page?
Can you find him using the supplied Surname Laura?
Might be some clues there if no mail return?

    Nothing via email yet.
I don't have any other information on him. His email doesn't give any personal info either so i don't have a surname of any sort. We'll just have to wait an see. Sadly, this has happened before with other members. All we can do is hope for the best for him and hope we see him again.

I think you need a belated birthday present. Ask for a huge monitor to attach to your 18" laptop!
Get someone to set up your phone and tablet to cast to a large screen tv and you will be in business!

Hehehe great idea plodr but sadly a 55" screen won't fit in our bedroom because of the aircon on the right side wall with a tallboy below the aircon as well as the double sliding doors in the middle of the wall. Then on the wall at the end of the bed are two full height windows and with plantation shutters that open outwards and only a small gap between them. On the left wall is a 6' dressing table and mirror in the far corner and then in the middle of the wall is the entry to our walk in robe and the door to the ensuite.

What I am doing is getting an 84" 4K TV mounted on the wall of my music room. I can spend time in there because there is a reclining armchair that lifts your legs higher than your hips which will be okay for me to sit for extended periods and this will also help with my lymphoedema. I will probably either bring my hefty Ryzen gaming box in from my office or build another new AMD Ryzen or Intel i9 for the purpose. Although I do have a spare 8 core i7 I used to use when I was working from home as a sys admin but now it lays idle. Would just need some more RAM and a decent NVIDIA graphics card. It already has 2 X 1Tb Samsung SSDs as well as 2 X 6Tb WD Ultrastar drives and with a good power supply and well ventilated case.......hmmm.......thinking...

The installers are coming late next week or early the following week to install the heavy duty wall bracket and then mount the 84" Samsung 4k OLED TV we have in the lounge room. We will bring the 72" LG 4k OLED in from the patio area and put that in the lounge as we mainly watch the patio TV in the summer months.

If all goes to plan I will soon be back on the forum with a vengeance.......I just have to work around the obstacles to arrive at the solution lol :)

Wow! That is one huge screen! Seems like a good belated bday present to me! Is there a way for the computer to read the text? That's a dumb question...of course there is something out there for that. Maybe you could combine that with the huge tv screen.

It sounds like you have come up with a great solution. Enjoy your present.
With the size of our rooms, the largest tv that fits anywhere is 32".

I'm hoping my 13" analog tv in the kitchen that is decades old holds out until we move into senior housing. It is hard to even find 20" tv sets. One of those would fit on the table near our eat in kitchen dining table but I know the sound is bad on flat screens compared to the old sets we have that still work. I'm not sure I'd be able to fit a sound bar by the tv.

Hi Laura, everything works the same as a computer monitor and I connect the screen to the pc via HDMI and this also takes care of the sound. Because it is the music room I have a really good hi fi setup so of course the TV will have an optical connection to my hi fi amp and the TV speakers are disabled. If I need to to read documents I take a picture with my phone and send it via bluetooth to the pc where I can zoom it up....well until it pixelates lol. I used to have an old Canon 12 megapixel DSLR camera on a tripod for taking pictures of documents but Samsung phone cameras are so good now the Canon has been retired.
I also have some "text to speech" software that is pretty good and I also have some OCR (optical character recognition) software that gets most of the words right and I use these to read emails if my eyes are having a blurry day or if someone sends a scanned attachment as an image that has a scrolly or cursive font that is hard for me to read.
Yeah 84" is pretty big but I will be sitting 4 metres away from the screen. In my office I have a 55" screen and sit 1 metre away. My computer glasses have a focal length of 900mm to 1200mm so they work in my office but I will now need to get another pair of glasses with a focal length of 4 metres so I can read the screen in the music room. I am booked into the optometrists in two weeks to get a new prescription for the glasses :)

Hopefully the plan will be a success.
When we moved house a few years ago we downsized from a large 6 bedroom house to a 32 square (280m²)four bedroom house and the new house has much better designed living areas with large open rooms and the block is ½ an acre so we have plenty of space....we were lucky to find the place and it was only eighteen months old when we bought it.
Wow an analog tv...........you don't see many of them these days.....in a few more years it will be an antique and might be worth something to a collector lol.
Hmmm.....I set this up on my mum's 40" flatscreen smart TV and the sound is much better than the crappy TV speakers and can go quite loud without distorting and this helps because mum is 90yo and losing her hearing. I ended up putting the subwoofer under the side table beside the small set of drawers that the TV sits on and it is connected through the headphone jack on the TV. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/speakers/2.1/38806-980-000414
We could have got a bluetooth speaker set but they didn't sound as good and were more expensive.
Another solution might be to plug in some wireless headphones but good ones can be a bit pricey and if you are in an area with lots of electrical interference then they might pick up some unwanted noise. Some wireless headphones can have multiple headsets off a common transmitter so several people can watch TV at the same time.
Yeah it will be a great present and I think I deserve it :)
