I thought that I'd have to buy a new Western Digital HDD for my laptop due to S.M.A.R.T. telling me that the drive had 136 "bad" sectors. The trigger point is 140. Cheapest in-the-box price was ~$80.00.

I downloaded Acronis True Image for WD at MajorGeeks site. I started researching the WD site and found several issues concerning S.M.A.R.T. test results. They can and do make mistakes regarding the severity of the damage to WD HDD's.

I was shown a link to download an exclusively WD test called "Data LifeGuard Diagnostic for Windows" which I ran. It took and hour and 16 minutes, and it gave my HDD a workout @~70-90 MB/s of "read" speed. Well, the result is this: The HDD PASSED!!!! The S.M.A.R.T. test still failed. WD says that S.M.A.R.T. tests are not exclusively for WD HDD's and can provide a false result.

I have provided a PDF of the test results, if y'all are interested.

All I can say is that I'm a happy boy, today!
    :)
