    Hi,
I've tryed searching for a program that can partition my hard disk (maxtor 300GB). I am using windows xp and windows (ntfs) is taking the whole harddrive exept for 15MB (dont know how this was possible) now i would like some program that can resize the windows partition. (i prefer sommething that runs within windows (and is free offcourse) because i have bad experience with boot cd's and floppy's (they seem to crash all the time))

Whenever you partition and format a hard drive...it is going to set aside a small amount of that hard drive that you can't touch. Which is what your 15 gig that you're talking about.

So knowing now that you understand that...are you wanting to repartition hoping to gain that hidden 15gig or are you wanting to repartition for the sake of better media management??

not sure if you mean 15MB or 15GB. If its 15GB, you are already using the full hard drive capacity.

HD manufacturers list their capacity using the Decimal system, while your operating system using Binary to determine the size. that means a 300GB decimal rated hard drive would translate to about a 272.8GB binary size, ~17GB loss.

This has been addressed recently in some class-action lawsuits against Seagate and Western Digital, and newer hard drives are warning that the formatted binary size is significantly less than the stated decimal size.

What is the reason that you want to partition the hard drive?

.so i think its same as the flash dive
coz i recently bought a 512mb Pqi flash drive but when i connect to usb port and check the storage capacity, i saw only 480mb. actually im wondering at that time but i did not check or search why

But now i think its same as your explanation regarding the HDD
    thanks for that iNyEARStOcOME :)

Most linux distro's come with their own partitioner, no need to do it in advance. Which Filesystem did you use? Linux can use Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS. Did you create a swap partition?
    Btw, redhat isn't free.
