Hard disk problems with

I currently have 2 hard disks on my computer (OS is Windows ME) - the "master" disk is a 30gb Time computer Drive and the "slave" is a Maxtor 60gb hard drive. I used Partition Magic 8.0 to reformat the Maxtor drive (previously it was used on my old computer as a "master" disk with four partitions each of 15gb) - this time it was formatted with no partition. When I look at the details in Partition Magic for the "slave disk" the total available space to me is only 32.239.8mb meaning that I have lost upwards of 27gb of potential space.

Does anyone know as to why I should lose this amount of space. The only thing that I can think of is that Windows ME can't deal with hard disks over a certain capacity. Perhaps if I swopped round the disks and had the 60gb as the "master" and the "20gb" as a slave tihis would solve the problem? What does anyone think please.

Hi.. if you have a win ME boot disk use that to format. Disconnect your OS HD and make your slave HD now Master by changing the jumper settings, and reconnect just this drive. Change your boot order to floppy and boot from there inserting the disk before rebooting. Then type fdisk in the dos window that will appear and wait. There you will be given 4 options number one is to delete the primary partition, then when done go back and create one , then if other partitions showing delte them as well,come out of there and wait until the a: prompt appears, then type format C: and sometimes format C:\
