Ok, I'm rebuilding my machine and was considering getting a new HD, but I'm not to knowledgable about them and was wondering a couple of things:

    1) Is SATA II backwards compatible with SATA I?

    2) Is there a noticable difference between a 10kRPM HD and 7.2kRPM HD?

All help appreciated, especially links to useful sites to allow me to learn :) !

    (1) yes.....your mobo must support at least SATA 1...but bear in mind that a Sata 11 interface drive will only be as fast as your sata 1 mobo specs ie. (If you buy a SATA II HDD and plug it into a normal SATA port, it will just run at the speed of SATA instead of SATA II )

    (2) The higher the RPM, the faster the data can be read from the platters, which increases overall performance. Refers to how many times the spindle makes a complete 360? turn in any single minute

Sata 11 interface, configured with Raid 0 is the best combo i know of other than the new blue-ray technology
