hard disk spins and spins and spins...

I thought certain I had a mean virus and went through the removal instructions posted here very carefully. I found lots of crap and cleaned it away. Thought that was the end of it. But, my hard disk is working it butt off. Constantly looking for something, every 1 second, a disk address. Even when I leave the computer alone for hours, the disk addresses still continue. I hate it. I need to get the disk to stop. HELP. I checked Windows Task Manager and no processes are working while the disk is continuously going. It also looks pretty clean. I even did HijackThis scan. While I am certainly no expert, it also looks fairly clean. Anyone know what is going on?
