I have an HP Pavilion 7936 PC & have run out of hard drive space. Can I put a larger hard drive in it as a slave? It has 40 GB & I want to put in a 250 GB Seagate. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!

Yes, actually the less data you store on your C: drive the faster it will be, move your data to the larger drive, and have a more useful pc. Just be sure your 40gig is at the end of the ribbon, and the slave is the second on the ribbon, be sure to set jumpers on new drive to slave. ed

Can you tell me how to clone my hard drive onto my new larger hard drive? I think I want to just get rid of the 40GB one & use the 250GB Seagate. Also, I don't have a CD of the OS -- Windows XP Professional, as it was already installed on the original PC. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you all can give me! :)Shanrene

Was the Seagate drive packaged as a retail item? Have you read the installation instructions that came with it? They should have some info about cloning your old drive onto the new one. And, surely, Seagate has software tools to do the cloning. I believe all the hard drives makers have such software tools. If the drive came with no such software, visit Seagate's website and download it.

By the way, HP surely provided a way to reinstall the OS when you bought that computer. It would either had a Recovery partition on the hard drive or came with a CD/DVD.

Hp provides a cd-dvd recovery process where you burn your own recovery disc's. It will be found programs, hp tools. ed
