Hard drive capacity cut in half

I have recently reformated both of my hard drives, and reinstalled windows on one. My problem is that the extra hard drive is only showing that it has 31.4 gb total capicity, when it really has 60gb. I have double checked the partitions on the hard drive to make sure I have not split up the hard drive, and I have not. I also checked bios and it even says there that the hard drive has a max cap. of 31.4gb. I am pretty sure that the hard drive had a full 60gb before I formated it. It is on NTFS..alittle side question...i have heard that fat32 can only go up to 30gb per partition, is this true?

The model is a Maxtor 6Y060L0.

it's extremely possible that your bios may need an update to support larger disks. i don't know for certain what the hard drive spec limits are, but flashing the bios to the newest version should certainly fix things.

 

Well what do you know, I figured it out! It was accually not the bios being old, it was a jumper on the hard drive. The wierd thing is that the hard drive was at its full amount while running windows 98, but now that im on xp, I had to pull out a jumper...I found this very strange..but anyhow it is working now and that is all that matters. I am planning on using this computer for a little file server for my network, should be sweet now. Thanks

 

Some hard drives do have this jumper setting (cylinder limitation).
