Hard Drive Corrupted

Hi,

When I turn my laptop on I sign on and then the system hangs in the "Applying your personal settings" screen and stays there forever. The folks at the lab in my company said the drive is corrupted and needs to be sent to Data Recovery. I was wondering if with this situation any of the freeware available in here will help me with this problem

Sorry Gaby there is no magic wand in the real world.
Can you get to safe mode?
If you repeatedly press F8 while the pc is starting up, before Windows starts, you will be offered a choce of boot modes.
If you choose safe mode or can get to the command prompt you can copy off your data to a safe place and then give the pc to your lab boys to do their worst.

i would have tried a windows repair, pop in the disc, Enter, F8, R. that fixes a lot of problems like that
