Hard drive corruption (?) on K8N Neo2 Plat.

So here's the deal. I was helping my buddy put his system together. His mobo is a K8N Neo2 Platinum, and for his (only) hard drive we planned on a 74GB Western Digital Raptor. In trying to boot Windows, though, we get an error message that says something like:

    --------------------------------

    CHKDSK /F

    Hard drive corruption

    (Insert technical nothingness)

    ---------------------------------

We don't have an OS booted, nor do we have an extra floppy disk drive to run the diagnostic. After a bit of tinkering and lots of frustration, we finally decide to use a spare 80GB IDE drive. We figured this would work especially well because it wans't a SATA drive and we'd hopefully be bypassing any SATA related errors.

The problem, however, persists and it gives us the same error information. As a relative novice at computer building, I'm stumped. Is this a motherboard problem? It seems unlikely that the two seperate drives would return the same exact error.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help!

No, we didn't do any overclocking or tinkering of the settings, really. Everything is still stock.
