I have a samsung hard drive that i want to get data off. This drive started giving me problems about a year ago and i haven't done anything with it since.

So i plug it in to my new computer and the first thing i notice is that the drive failed the SMART test. It says bad, backup and replace. When i boot into windows (not on this drive) i can access the drive and see all the folders, but i get a lot of data errors (CRC) and a lot of read errors.

I run chkdsk on the drive and the results are shown below. I know writing to the drive is the worst thing to do so i wanted to ask for help first. I am not sure if i should let it convert the lost chains to files. One more thing to note is that even though it says the "keith" folder and the other folder are entirely unreadable, i am able to access files and read them from within windows.

Is there any chance i can get my data back?

I have had mixed results recovering data from a bad hard drive. I am not a pro at this...

This program is one you might want to check out: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2623.html

I would remove the drive from the computer until you are ready to try it. Ideally, make the copy as quickly as possible.

    Good luck
