I have a new asrock motherboard and have tried to install a 80 gig western digital drive in it.After installed the drive just died no power.I rtied another new 80 gig western digital drive and it died after partition same thing no power extremely hot to.I put a seagate 40 gig in and partitioned and installed os and it is working great. Do you think the 80 gigs were defective? they were both new out of the pack that day.what are the odds of 2 drives screwing up back to back?

Probabaly a bad batch. If the seagate is working & you didn't cause anything to kill them RMA them both.
