Hard drive headaches

I have myself an HP Compaq dx2200 MT microtower. Not my choice at all, but whatever.

I have a buddy that gave me his old Gateway with Windows ME on it to screw with, so I decided to try and stick his hard drive (which is a 30GB Quantum Fireball AS ide hard drive) in my old dx2200. The hard drive worked fine, I turned on the Gateway before I ripped the drive out of it. My dx2200 doesn't like the hard drive at all, though.

The motherboard has two SATA ports and one IDE, which was being used for the DVDRW. I tried slaving the hard drive off of the DVDRW, nothing detects it. I tried mastering it on it's own, no detection. I messed with the jumpers to high noon, no detection. I updated the bios too, nada.

What the hell guys. Can someone help me out here? I'm going insane. I want to format this harddrive, but I can't do anything to it if neither the bios nor windows detects it!

When connecting the drive, keep in mind the black plug on the IDE cable goes to the master, the grey is the slave.

Yup, I got that. It's just refusing to work, and it's really ticking me off. It SHOULD work, the only thing stopping it is some obscure problem I don't know about.

 

Oh boy do I feel stupid. The system I ripped the hard drive from had two hard drives. I didnt see the other one (it's a weird case). That one is the hard drive that works. This one is busted, it seems.

False alarm guys, though I may be back to see if there's a way to fix the first hard drive i removed. Sorry for taking up precious kilobytes with my folly
