Hard Drive help

I have a SATA 2. 500 GB Hard Drive that I will use to just store Videos Movies and Audio Files and MP3s and things like this.

Now I know in order to use the whole Drive to it's full capacity you have to make sure that every Cluster is Filled.

So if you have a 4. kB Cluster and you put a 1. kB File in it there will be 3. kB of space that will not be unused in that Cluster.

So this is my thought in Disk Manigment you can pick a Cluster size from 512 Bytes to as big as 64 kB.

So I thought to make sure the whole Cluster will be full and every Cluster will be full I sould make the Cluster size 512 Bytes.

I know 512 Bytes is the size of a Sector so this meens that it will just use every Sectore.

And I know that 512 Bytes is not at all that big and there are no files that small.

This is why I thought to use 512 Bytes this will make sure it will use the Full Cluster before going to the next.

Is my thinking off??

 

First, the drive has to be formatted correctly for the device(s) it will be used on. If it is used strictly on Windows-friendly devices, NTFS is the most efficient file format. If you plan on also using it with Apple OS X or Linux, check the requirements for the specific drive formatting the OS will read.

Unfortunately, you are not going to get a full 500GB of storage on a 500GB drive. I'd rather stick with what I know works in order to be sure the data plays back properly and isn't corrupted.

 

Well I will be using NTFS and some people say if it will just store Data make the Cluster size 64 kB.

I never new why because if you want to make sure every Bit will be taken up in every Cluster then make the Clusters as small as they can be.

And this would be 512 Bytes???
