Hard drive motor running, but not being read by laptop...

I took apart my Xbox 360 and put the HDD in an enclosure kit, the HDD is spinning, but my laptop is not picking anything up, no external devices are being found........Any ideas?

Is the drive being shown in Disk Management? There may not be a drive letter assigned to the drive. If no drive letter is shown, give it one and it should be recognized.

Edit: do you know what format the Xbox uses on the hard drive. If it is not FAT, FAT32, or NTFS it will not be seen.
Edit: Not FAT32. It is FATX. Not sure if that can be recognized by your PC.

 

You can try something like Parted Magic too. It should show up there. What exactly are you trying to do with the drive?

 

This all stems from me trying to fix my Xbox 360. I was thinking that if it was just the HDD then I could get a new one for cheap and copy the info over. But in the end I really don't know what is wrong with my Xbox 360. I need to find a way to know if it is indeed the hard drive. Just a little project.

I don't know an excessive amount about 360's, but if it were me I'd boot to Parted Magic, and check to see if it recognizes the HDD. If your drive is ok, it should. That being said, even if your HDD is bad, it should still show up, you just may have problems trying to format it or whatever (if that's what you ended up deciding to do). Also, If there is a problem with the drive, you may be able to recover the data from it. Worth a try anyway. Here's the link to the iso.
