hard drive noise

    hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem ive been having recently, every now and again my hard drive will make a really loud spinning noise and then a click, its a fairly new maxtor 160gb, it doesnt effect operation, just wondering why its doing it, it used to happen on my other pc and the pc freezed when it happend, any help would be appreciated

    The click is disturbing. Usually that is an indicator that a hard drive is failing. You can use seatools to test the disk.

    edit: forgot to mention to run the 'long generic' test. This program works with any brand hard drive even if it is mounted.
