My old faithful is acting more and more up, so I got meself a new PC. W11.
To avoid days of restoring all the data on the new machine, I created PC image on the current machine and saved it to HD.
Problem is - new PC does not recognize HD as in - at all. Works fine with W10.
Ideas? Can't really format it, as that defies the purpose of creating PC backup.
Onedrive from MS does not recognize that HD either. MOF, no matter how I tried, I can't backup PC to Onedrive. Just keeps cycling "no suitable drives found" message.
    Thank you

Sooo many questions..how are you connecting this drive to the system(s)?
    Are we talking desktops?
Is this an external drive you've imaged the old system to?
When it "works with Win 10", how is that?
Is there a pop up when you attach the drive asking you to format it?
Did you look at drive management and see if it is there and needs a drive letter assigned?
Why an image? What software? Images are usually one big file or several large files that you have to mount to extract data from, adds extra steps to getting at your data.
How does OneDrive detect drives? Never heard of this.
Days of restoring data? How big is this drive?
Maybe some play by play with some background would help.

From reading your post several times, I get the impression that you made an image of the Windows 10 computer that is acting up.
You then tried to use this image on the new Windows 11 computer.
That doesn't work. An image made on one computer only works on the computer that was imaged.

    Opens, use files on it

    No. Nada

Drive has letter assigned to it on current PC

    Donno. Followed some internet advice

Donno. That's what internet says how to "quick and easy" move things from the old to new.
Days of restoring data? How big is this drive?
I'm looking at 78Gb PC image. Programs, files, etc.
Maybe some play by play with some background would help

OK. Good to know I wasted 2 hrs creating it.

So is there a reasonable, non IT/geek way to transfer setup and pgms from the old one to a new one? Or, I have painstakingly restore it manually? Either way I need access to that HD on the new PC, as I have lots of stuff on it. About 260Gb of files, pics, texts. The usual.

You never transfer programs from one computer to a different computer.
You install each program that you want, cleanly.

I keep a note card of programs I use and after making a base image of a new computer and baking up the drivers, I start downloading from various sites and installing the programs I use.

Well, I was hoping to transfer folders with setup pgms... not pgms themselves.
But, anyhow. Apparently, there is no way to, actually, copy setup/pgms from pc to pc.
Just FYI, I dug deeper into device managemnt on the new pc and it does show that HD, with no letter assigned to it, and without being able to initialize it or open files on it.
I found another Seagate 1Tb HD, connected it and it was recognized right away. Seems it's that particular HD that has something about it, blocking from use.
But, it is all irrelevant now. As I decided to format that 2nd Seagate, had them both connected to the current - old - pc and by error, formatted the one, I had all the files, I care about, on. So here I am.
Taking it to Geek Squad after work, maybe they'll be able to recover it. Bummer. There are some data on it I'd rather not lose.
