hope this is the right forum...

I am trying to delete a hard drive partition and I have copied all my files from the partitioned drive (c) over to the one i want to keep (d).

I have found this thing: ntuser.dat can't move it.

what the hell is this thing?

can I just delete the partition now? will ntuser matter?

should I go into computer management and right click on th hard drive I want to delete and then click delet partition?

btw you may have realised I am not a computer genius. please dont use long words.

If you have copied all your important data over...delete the partition!
make sure your OS and program directory is on :d (the one you want to keep)

Moved to software as most of this will be software related.

What Operating System ( Windows version or Linux ) you using or going to install? and do you want to re-insatall your operating system on the C: drive after saving all your data to the D: Drive?

If its XP then boot to the XP CD ( set in your Bios the 1st boot device to CDROM ) and XPs installer allows you to delete, create partitions and format.

Good pictorial guide to installing XP.

Section 7 is where you can delete and recreate a partition on the C: drive as you wish.

I presume program directory means the file "program files"

    what is OS?

If somone can give me a link to a program to install to solve this problem I wouldbe very happy.

I should ask why do you want to delete partition C?
This should (by rights) contain your OS (operating system XP) and your program directory along with many important files that enable your system to operate!

boot= loading your operating system (XP)
bios= basic input/ output system from the device(mobo, video card etc)

    Whats the problem?

I want to delet the partition becaue whoever set my pc up (from dixons) gave C 20GB of space. not nearly enough if I want to install several large games.

I seem to have made a mistake.

    I want to keep C

    I want to remove D
