Hard Drive Pegged - Tool?

All,

I'm running ann HP 8510w with XP SP3 and the hard drive is pegged, with the activity light running non-stop for minutes on end. (This is a recent development, but darned if I remember what I did to start it misbehaving.)

Task Manager reports an ccSvsHst.exe process with 161,205,120 I/O Reads to other processes' 8,000 or so. It won't let me halt the process.

This does not feel like malware. Is there a tool out there that will let help me chase down which dopey piece of software dopey me managed to allow onto my machine and is chewing away on the hard drive? I found DiskAction 2, by Tim Smith, on the PC Mag website, but the page to download it is expired.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think falconattack's on the right track: ccSvsHst.exe (or ccsvchst.exe) is usually associated with one of the Symantec/Norton products...

I've got Norton installed but shut off all of the real time monitoring features. This quieted ssCvsHst.exe down considerably.

Just fired up sysinternals Process Explorer and when I hover over the I/O box for disk, searchindexer.exe gets all of the airtime. I have indexing turned off at the system level. Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services > Indexing > Disabled.

Why do I still have a searchindexer.exe process? KIlling it.

CRAP! Drive light went out, 25 seconds later searchindexer.exe came back, light went back on. Maybe this is malware.
