Heard hard drive clicking and it wouldn't boot into W98, so I installed another hard drive as a master, then set up the "bad" hd as a slave. Computer sees it in cmos. W98SE sees it in computer management and device manager, yet am not able to access it to remove files. Also tried rebooting in DOS mode to look at it, but when I typed drive d and e, it didn't find anything. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any words of wisdom on how I might be able to access these 3 word docs I need. I also tried it as a slave in another machine with XP Pro. Same results. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The freezer is the last resort get her cold then (quickly while still cold) install it run it up and yank the files (last resort step) the clicking was a death knoll for the drive

yea --- I suppose you could(replace motor) but I am sure its just cheaper to replace the HD (next time we all learn the word "Backup")
