Hello, so I need help and I'm not that good with hardware stuff.

So I had this Maxtor 200GB HD I had gotten and installed it. Was working fine but after a few months, it didn't work (sometimes showed up under My Computer and sometimes didnt, also used to freeze and stuff). Someone told me it had bad clusters/sectors, so I returned it as warranty and got a new one. The freezing didn't go away even after I took the HD out.

So this new HD is the same, Maxtor 200GB. Before I installed the HD, I wanted to reformat so it would be fast and I thought that the freezing would go away too, but it didn't. I installed it today and it froze again. Yesterday, when I was running it, it was working fine and didn't freeze. I put the HD in and after sometime, it froze. I defraged it and everything was alright. I ran a few tests at PC Pitstop and it was fine too.

I know it's the HD. Anyone know what can be causing this? (Sorry for the long post.) I have no idea what to do since I'm not so good at hardware.

    Thanks
    Prim3

It could be the PSU...when they start to go bad, they will point fingers at the other peices of hardware, and they will malfunction in a manner that makes it look like it is that peice of hardware's fault!!

But before you run out and buy a new PSU...ist it an SATA hard drive?? If so, make boubly sure that you are getting a good continious solid contact with the cables that connect to the drive and the motherboard!! SATA connections have a tendency to look/feel good but in reality, it is a flimsy connection!! Also...are you 100% sure that it is not a bad hard drive cable!?!?

I'm not really sure, but I think it's an ATA hard drive.

Can anyone tell me how to find out please? (Just to be sure.)

    ATA then.

I haven't even see those SATA wires in my life.

    It's ATA for sure.

Sorry for the double post, but is it possible that it could be the cable thats connected to the HD and the motherboard:confused:
