Hi There. Wondering if anyone can advise Me on a Hard drive problem I have...I had an 80 gb hd and for no apparent reason it suddenly said that wins 32 system files were missing so wouldnt allow windows xp to start up. I tried to use My floppy disk start up disk to get onto dos and from there to format the hd. Problem is that each time the floppy boots it reaches a part where it says mode something or other and then freezes. The disk works fine with other pcs but on this hd it wont. Any advice on how to get past this point? Thank You

Have you tried the XP install CD?? Just go through the setup and let it format the drive and then reinstall the OS....You might get lucky, if youn try a repair install first and see if that fixes it!! It will prompt you of the option to repair (only if it finds a copy of windows on the drive, depending on how screwed up it is...it might find it and it might not) instead of formatting, when you are running the setup CD!!

when i run the xp install disk (cd) it gets to the repair part then when i press any key it reboots itself like its on a loop? and comes back to the missing files message.

Have you tried going to HD's manufacture site and get a copy of their Disk Diagnostics and save to floppy, then reboot, there should be a format facility on there.

+ if you OC youe got wrong of timmings of ram
+ Your PSU is so weak after long time of use so it can not stable for HDD start
+ Hdd get bad Sectors so the file is located in bad sector which is lost
