Is there really a difference between a Maxtor, WD, or Seagate HD? Internal and externals. I just got a Seagate Barracuda and a Maxtor and the price between them is quite significant, and only really need one, so that's why I ask.

All three manufactures you have listed are leading suppliers in Hard disk products, and all have an excellent reputation within the market place!

When comparing, remember to compare apples with apples, so to speak!
By this i mean, same HDD capacity, same spindle speed, and same data transfer interface.

With this, you will find that there is not to much of a difference in price, and because all three will be very similar in quality, look for other deciding factors, such as length of warranty, manufacturers after sales support etc!

I've always kind of frowned on Maxtor because I've seen MANY of them fail. Seagate has the best warranty in the biz right now: 5 years. I'm not a huge fan of WD either. No real reason, I just don't like 'em. I think Hitachi drives are good though... SO I vote for Seagate and Hitachi.
