I want to replace my motherboard and cpu but I don't know how it will affect my current hard drive. Are there any preparatory steps I should take with my HD before the new install (such as deleting previous mobo/cpu drivers)? Or can I just hook it in to the new motherboard as is?

Assuming you are running Windows XP, you should backup your data and plan to reformat the hard drive when making such a big hardware change.

You could probably get away with getting rid of drivers and installing new drivers, but expect tons of driver conflicts and headaches along the way. I've never heard of an experienced person doing it that way, since it would take longer than reformatting, and its a good idea to reformat Windows every so often anyway :)

I still think you would get the blue no go screen - algorithms embedded in system registry,-- so I would do as InyearsTo cCome suggests, backup as much as possible, save the driver folder, if you can to cd/dvd, collect as much program information that you can - find the installation cd,s- then format, and reinstall. You may have to telephone microsoft when you reinstall ,if it refuses to validate the new motherboard and cpu, if your OS is an OEM.
