Hard Drive Replacement.

Can I use a Seagate U Series 9 40GB UDMA/100 5400RPM 2MB IDE Hard Drive and/or a Maxtor DiamondMax 16 80GB UDMA/133
5400RPM 2MB IDE Hard Drive to replace a Maxtor IDE\Diskmaxtor #2B020H1, 20 GB Hard Drive in my Compaq Presario Desktop Model #5400US Computor.

 

Hard drives are hard drives, do you need extra advice.

Are you cloning one to another, if so, could you give us your specs..hardware, OS etc.

Do you intend your Maxtor 20Gb to remain in the machine as master or slave...what are you trying to achieve?

 

This old computer is using Windows XP Home Edition plus SP3. I would like to clone the old drive to the new larger one. Then make the new one the master, and leave the old one in as a slave. The processor is a 1.2 GHz Intel Celeron with 512 MB of Ram.

Thank you for your info. Will I be able to do the cloning using Farstone Drive ClonePro Version 2.0. I would like complete this project before I become senile, as I'm 75 years old already and my eyesight is failing. This has been a real dependable computer for me, except for the hard drive being a little small.
