How can I determine the speed of my hard drive?

Are you talking about Transfer Rate or the RPM of the drive?

You could use a program like Aida32 or Belark Advisor to find out what kind of drive you have, and then look it up at the manufactuors site. Im not sure but Aida32 might tell you the RPM, I know it shows the data transfer rate.

I am looking at geting a new hard drive. It looks like my computer has the older ata/100 interface and the current drive has a speed of 5400 RPM. The new drive I wish to purchase has a RPM of 7200(ata/133). Will the ata/100 interface negate the added speed of a faster drive? If so should I buy a pci slot ata/133 adapter?

If the speed of your IDE bus on the Mobo is only ATA/100, than buying an ATA/133 drive will make it still run at ATA/100.

If your gonna go and get a PCI card and hard drive, why not make it SATA instead?
