    I'm still new here.
I still have Win98SE with 256 RAM... Because of financial constraints, I have to be innovative in upgrading, but I have a hi-techie business friend who helps.

I originally had only a 6-gig HD, which eventually ran out of room for the Swap Files. I added a 20-meg HD, keeping the OS on the original drive and moving large files to the D: All that went well, but here's where I'm having a wee problem.

Sometimes, when changing to the D:, there's a lag before the new windows open. And very rarely, there will be some sort of lag before a text file can be closed/saved; also rarely, other actions will have a short delay before executing properly. None of these lags is consistant within one program or between 2 or more specific programs - at least not consistant enough to stand out, except for the change to the D:

Any thoughts on fixing, without having to re-format or install a newer OS. I am thinking about upgrading to Win2K, but I don't want to do that yet if I can wait until it's more convenient.

    Thanks.

Could this be a PATH problem? If that's it, how can I check or edit the PATH?

how much of a lag are we talkin here like seconds or minutes. for one it could definitely be RAM problem and considering your situation theres not that much you can do. Also just fyi if you are planning on gettin win2k you'd probably be better off just gettin a whole new setup price wise. not sure if live links are allowed on the forums so you can go google system76 which is a computer manufacturer that can get you a real money friendly computer or laptop, just for the future though. sorry i cant really think of anything else for your lag problem but sometimes old things are slow

    Hi, Zigg...

The problem lasts only a few seconds, and only the "first time" I click on any particular point... I don't think this one is RAM, tho. It started only after I installed the 2nd HD and the additional RAM boards. It acts like it's confused a bit, then gets straight.

The 'conduct' is so sporadic that I've not kept any sort of log about it, just in my mind. So I'm having to remember real hard to try to come up with any pattern to all this. :banghead
