a few days ago i caused a problem with my driver that couldnt be solved using restore so i used the recovery disc i got with my computer, when through the proces where it asked me to delete partitions so i deleted one witch was my second drive but kept the other because it had the windows os on it and i didnt have a boot disc to install windows as with a format, once finished everything was back to normal my pc only had the basic windows package, but when re installing the wanted programs back onto my machine i noticed that they all detected another already installed yet my add/remove programs was almost blanc, so i checked the c: drive and noticed that the size was exactly the same as before i used the recovery disc, it was also hidden so i opened program files and all of my old programs were still there but the uninstall files couldnt locate the program so i manualy deleted them and cleaned out the registry, but when i checked the size of the c: drive the available space was still very low considering there was next to nothing on it, even with all files shown i cant see whats taking up the space, also i cant find or acces my second drive even though my computer thinks it there. any help or advice would be great

If you were having problems with windows why would you choose to keep it on a partition? Are we talking two hard drives or two partitions on one hard drive? ed

two hard drives with a partition each, the problem wasnt with windows it was a driver problem that i had caused, and if i had desided to get rid of windows wouldnt my computer fail to start because i dont have a boot disc for my computer? so no way of re-installing windows

sfc requires the disk to check for corrupted system files.
    Don't have one?

Sorry, missed that ....so you don't have a recovery disc or the original os disk ....not much you can do without one or the other.

Except borrow someones ...the exact same os ...xp pro or xp home. Whichever you have installed.

Computer make won't matter ...but it will matter if it is xp pro OR if it is xp home.

well iv got another disc it wont work with the SFC /scannow but it asks if i want to install windows home, pro, media centre. if i installed windows (again) would it still be the same outcome i have now, realy all i need now is a solution to get the hard drive completly wiped clean but a way that wont involve using a boot disc.

Start / run / type "sfc /scannow" without qoutes ..enter ....put the xp (which ever version you have installed pro/home) in the cd drive.
