hard drive ****up...

ok, i decided to get all the files (mostly music, some games) off my old 15 gig maxtor diamondmax hard drive, and onto my new emachines t2605 computer. i put it in the drive slot next to the existing 80 gig hard drive (xp home), and put on all the right jumper settings (80 gig to master (ie left it as it was, with just one little jumper thingie), and old one to slave (had to move one little jumper thingie), connected it, turned on my computer, it started as it always does, then when it gets to xp logon screen, my computer automatically resets, and then when it boots up again, says nstf.sys or something like that is missing, and that i should fix it by putting in my xp cd. then when i reset again, it just goes to the first startup screen (a big emachines logo) and stays on that. i turned off my comp, unplugged the old hard drive, and then everything is back to normal, although after the experience, xp shows a message when i log in saying that it fixed a critical error

any way of fixing this so i can get my files?

maybe the computer was confused and was trying to boot off of the old hard drive? i've had something similar happen before. you might want to go into your bios and make sure it's booting from the right hard drive. to go into the bios setup utility, you'll need to press del, or f1, or something like that (the screen will tell you what to press, hopefully). just make sure you DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING but the boot order.

 

no, i doubt that's the problem, because it boots fine off the xp hard drive first, and runs xp, but then it just shuts down and resets, and hangs up
