Can anyone help me? 2 days ago, I had a problem with one of my hard drives I have on my Dell Dimension 8400 desk top. Bassically, it was stuck in the start up mode on my desktop. So I put in the Windows XP pro /sp2 cd. and I ran the repair. (by this I mean that I made my way through the cd as if I was going to do an install of the os.and not the repair in console) I had 3 virtual drives on my hard drive and when it was done, my virtual drives were still there and both my Cd/DVD R and CD/DVD +/- RW were not there, so I re ran the repair of the os, unplugging everything but the monitor, keyboard and mouse and I even deleted my 3 virtual drives.

My hard drive still does not see my drives nor when I put a cd in it wont do anything. However, when I log on to my other hard drive, they are there and they work..Any ideas??

    I am running a:
    Pent 4 (HT) 3.26 GHz
    N-Vidia Gforce 6600 256mb video card
Creative sound blaster audigy 2 zs
    _NEC DVD +- RW ND-3530A
    HK-DT-ST DVD-RON GDR8163B
Microsoft Windows XP professional with sp2

sorry its long, I wanted to get everything you may need to help me

Your problem sounds like the one I had. When I deleted I-tunes and the dvd/cd rom icons dissappeared on me. They were still there, but hidden. I did a system restore and they came back! So, I'm pleased as punch now. :)

Maybe one of the experts here can help you, like they helped me. They are great! :)

    Hopefully they can help....

no, I did that and I can't see it. Maybe I forgot to mention this, but if I also put a cd or dvd in either my CD/DVD R OR CD/DVD RW drives, nothing happens, it wont run. I cant exucute anything from them. I can on the other hard drive but not this on. I am probably gonna have to reformat it but trying not to..

what virtual drive are you using? you need to remove it manually.

I know with alcohol and I'm pretty sure w/ daemons tools you delete in dev manager > system devices > USB plug and play BIOS extention. And there are these drivers a347scsi.sys that need to be removed, I think vax347s.sys in the new version. They also can be found in the dev manager > non-plug and play drivers. Although make sure you run the programs uninstaller first.

HERE is a better explanation. But that's only if you're using alcohol.

I am using alcohol 120%, but I did remove the virtual drives manually using Alcohol..I really think I may need to reformat and start all over, but I am trying to avoid that step if I can..
