Hard Drive

I purchased a WD 500 G IDE hard drive. My intent is to put it in an external closure and the using Acronis TI clone my hard drive (which is also a WD 500 G IDE HD) on my desktop. My question is how do I go about doing everything to the new hard drive that needs to be done in order to clone the main HD?

 

I've had success using a program called Drive2Drive

This trial edition of Drive2Drive is fully functional except that it does not permit you to resize partitions. Registration costs $19.95 for the unlimited version.
It's very easy to use.

 

acronis will copy your drive "C" to an external drive.
first you need to format your new external drive, this is a free application to format new HDs.

Thanks all. Can the hard drive be formated as it is in the enclosure as an external HD?

BillMcc66: Downloaded Swissknife and attempted to install and get a message part way through installation say something about an error occurred during the move data process of the file SBKUPNT.SYS. and then it uninstalls everything.

 

i don't understand why Swissknife won't install????
this in not prog that installs in your reg so there should be no conflict?

is it possible that it installed and you just tried to move the data from drive "C" without first formatting the external drive.

i have used this prog on numerous occasions and never had a problem with it (the last time was last weekend)

BillMcc66: I did install it on my desk top at home and it installed just fine. I was attempting to install on a laptop that is work related and was getting that weird message. Anyway now I will see if it will format the new hard drive and I will see the full 500 G space. Any final words of advice?
