hard drive

Hello, i have a simple question. I have had problems with spyware/viruses recently and it seems (at present) i am unable to get rid of them at all. I have norton antivirus 2004, hijackthis and have tried other anti viruses as well. These programs can detect the problem but do not get rid of them, I was just wondering if it is possible to wipe a hard drive and then reinstall all the programs again and be gone of these annoying programs. Is it that simple? I have no data which is important to save and so don't need any backup files. I have tried asking people on majorgeeks how to get rid of these problems but they were unable to help in my cause. All help greatly appreciated, cheers

 

OK, first off, this should go into the spyware forum, but since you're a new guy, I won't hold it against you.

Now, for spyware, you should try running adaware, spybot, and cwshredder to try to get rid of everything. get back to us when you've done that.

all three can be found on majorgeeks.com free of charge. formatting the computer should be your very very last resort, which i highly don't recommend AT ALL.

Cheers for the reply. I have tried all those spyware tools . Spybot doesnt find the problems. Adaware doesnt find the problems. CWshredder recognises the threats and when i delete them with it they are back straight away again. Norton antivirus 2004 recognises them but cant delete them. I only said about the wiping of the hard drive because i am at wits end and am worried about the security of my comp on the net.

 

What kind of viruses/spyware do the programs come up with? Can you list them specifically?
