hard drives 3 and 4tb

hi i bought 2 wd drives 1 at 3tb and 1 at 4tb to put some movies on they have both been formatted to fat32 useing this program

the movies have been encoded to mp4 useing ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate and wondershare Video Converter Ultimate when it worked , when i play the movies on the tv from 4tb drive some will work and other will say file not supported , but if i play the same movies from the 3tb drive the ones that did not work on the 4tb drive would work but other ones on the 3tb drive would not in which i dont understand why ? i am so confused , if i put movies on the 3tb drive they dont show up through the tv media player allthough ll movies have been done the same way , our the hard drives to big? or am i doing some thing wrong ? which is the best way to format these size of hard drive to fat32 into 1 partition thanks for your advice

the drives are connected via hdd usb in the tv , when playing some movies will work and some will not eg: we have got rv by robin williams , when we try and play the movie through the 3tb drive it says file not supported but if we try and play the same film through the 4tb drive it works , it is weird as both drives have been formatted to fat32 the movie is mp4 , another issue we have found today is that if we make cats up eg: action , horror , comedy etc and put the movie into its own folder and then into the correct folder for that movie certain movies wont work or cannot been seen on the hard drive , but when we put the movie straight into 1 folder and not 2 it will work which is strange , eg: we have got some movies allthough converted the same way they will work on 1 drive but not the other and the other way round thanks for your help

 

I think there is some confusion here. FAT32 is a file system protocol - defining how disk space will be utilized.

MP4 is a file format, like .txt, .doc, .exe. FAT32 is often used with flash drives but I don't understand why your hard drives would be formatted to FAT32. They should NTFS, IMO. FAT32 has too many limitations - including file size - 4Gb.

 

thank you for your reply the hard drive is fat32 due to the tv we have for some reason will not see the hard drive when formatted to ntfs, the movies are encoded to mp4 with the movie size they are from 600mb to 1.6gb is size , but what i dont understand is that all though the drives have been formatted to fat32 and the movies are mp4 why is it that when we watch a movie not all movies that we put onto the hard drive show up on media player through the tv all though they do in windows explorer thanks

 

If there is any way to change this so you play through a laptop you will be much happier. TV's that play directly from USB do not handle many formats.
We have a low power consumption laptop with 8TB USB attached HD and internet hooked to our TV even though it would play some movies directly. The laptop and TV combination is far superior as you can use VLC for movies you have and check out movies on the net.
