    Hi guys!

Right now the problem I am facing is as follows:

A customer's harddive is not being detected in BIOs. After changing the jumper to cable select, the BIOs detects it as a CD Rom drive! Anyone knows whats the problem?

    Thanks!

Thanks for replying! =D Yup, did set it to primary. But after setting to primary, the harddisk doesn't detect. Another to note is that even after slotting the HDD into a casing, and connecting it to another two computers as an external harddrive, it still does not detect.

Either the board on the HDD is stuffed or the firmware on the board is corrupted ... i geuss you could always try changing the board ... but it would be cheaper just to get a new HDD, unless of course the customer has data on it ;)

I have also tried shifting the HDD to another computer. Tried booting up in Roadstarter, but it cannot be detected too. =/ When I try to boot up normally (the hdd connected to my own computer), nothing works too.

And yeah, the customer has data on it. And I am expected to drag the data out. *facepalms*

Yer as I said lol ...... you've gotta either get a new HDD of the EXACT SAME type, and swap the boards or order a board from the manufacturer (only some manufacturers do this and its just as expensive as a new drive)

just reiterating lol ... the HDD has to be the exact same, so same model, year, size etc ...

    Hi Gale_Fujimiya,

Look on the motherboard where the hard drive data ribbon cable connects too. you should see IDE0 and IDE1 printed on the motherboard. connect the hard drive to the cable that is connected to IDE0.

also, connect the drive to the first data port connection (this is the one that is further down the cable not the one that is at the end of the cable) on the data ribbon cable.

change the jumper on the drive to slave or secondary.

Disconnect any other drives or cd-rom's so only the hard drive is connected.

    Power up.

If no go, these data ribbon cables have been known to fail. You can try a different one to further confirm that the cable is not the problem.
