Harddrive converted itself to RAW ???

    All i want to do is format my friends hd, but i get an error saying somthing like "i dont think so tim"
    i dont want to retrieve any data, i just want hd wiped clean. How can i format drive when it converted itself to RAW ? any ideas??

    fdisk > remove partition
    fdisk > make partition
    reboot
    format :)
