    Good afternoon,

I need some computer help, hopefully this is the right board. :) My son was playing an online game and the computer suddenly shut down. We restarted, seemed to load as usual but stopped on a black bios screen. We tried to reset to default (selected "load setup defaults") but that didn't seem to do anything. After sitting briefly on the black bios screen, it turns black with a blinking cursor at the top left, and there it stays. What other information do you need to help assess the problem? It is an HP system with Windows 7 Premium 64 bit, an AMD processor, I don't remember more specific details about the specs. We recently replaced the old boxy monitor for a LED TV with HDMI, could that have affected anything? Thanks in advance for any help!

If it just shutdown suddenly then i think this might most likely be a heat issue. Some computers have a auto shutoff if the temps get a little to high any idea when the last time the inside was cleaned.

Is this a desktop or laptop. And what game was your son running at the time.

At first I thought it might be overheating, but even after restarting (after it has has time to coo) it won't boot completely, getting stuck on the black screen. More specifically, it goes to the RAID Option screen, says "scanning drives..." then goes to another black screen:

    "RAID Option ROM Version 3.2.1545.2"
    "(c) 2009 etc etc"

    "Port Device Name"
    2 hp DVD A DH16AAL"
    1 WD10EADS-65M2D0 <S.M.A.R.T. Health> <RAID READY> <Functional>"

"Press <Ctrl-F> to enter RAID Option ROM Utility..._"

then after 2-3 sec the blank black screen w/ blinking cursor, where it stays.

(The game was World of Warcraft, but was idle / no active combat or anything.) And it is a desktop.

possibly a hard drive failed or another piece of hardware failed.
