    I am currently trying to make my own computer which I personally have never done before. Im asking for help in determining if everything included in my computer will fit together like a puzzle. I would also like to know if I have left out anything that I would probably need or if there are better alternatives to what I have chosen. I would be very pleased on your comments or reviews of my so far planned future system.
    This is a list of all hardware I have picked out:
    1.Hard Drive - 250gb seagate 7200 rpm 8mb cache - $80

    EdpNo=174238&CatId=0
    10.sound card- Turtle Beach Catalina 7.1 Digital PCI Sound Card (OEM)- $40 (might not need)

    11.CPU Fan- Masscool 8W501B1M3G / Socket 775 / Intel Prescott / Copper Core / CPU Cooling Fan
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1272112&CatId=0

    $1071
    I would also like to know which goes better with my system, the P5ND2-SLI Deluxe or the P5WD2 Premium
    When making suggestions remember im trying to keep a budget of 1000 dollars (already over of course) and AMD is out of the question. I thank you in advance for your comments.

    Yes, Edit button on the right corner of your post.

    Good luck with your build.

    not after 5 minutes
    and yes I tried pricewatch and mostly found deals that took off maybe 2 or 3 dollars but from very untrustworthy websites so I just stayed with newegg and tigerdirect. I actually found the processor using pricewatch.

    Not a bad choice in setup you know what you want hope it works out.

    The cpu you have chosen is a 478 you need a 775 they will not fit together ;) ,11 products down"I'v stopped using new eggs direct product page links because they never work"

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...d&Range=1, 1, 1&description=intel+775&page=11

    The prescott is the hottest chip around at the moment per performance,I wont persuade you to buy amd,so you will need a really good heatsink or you could use the one that comes with it which doesnt keep it cool at all,look in the cooling and modding section for all the people who are worried about thier prescotts

    http://heatsinkfactory.com/cgi-bin/HFAstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=HS-008

    The specs of your case arnt listed,you WILL need at least a 120mm intake and 120mm exaust to keep that system cool

    you will need a $10 fan with it aswell if you choose to go for it,the more expensive thermalright xp 120 is really what you need.

    may I ask the reasons you chose intel,I understand AMD is out of the question and will not argue with your reasons

    :)

    Thanks a lot, I must of just assumed because the one on tigerdirect was 775. I found another one here http://www.xpcgear.com/pentium4530j.html that should work. The reason I do not want to use AMD is because this is replacing a family computer. My dad is against AMD because he used to have one and it died on him. If you can post why I would get AMD over intel then tell me and I might be able to persuade.

    Also does that heat sink you showed me fit socket 775 processors?

    Oh yeah and I dont really know what case to get. The one I picked out comes with 3 80mm fans. So you dont think that will be enough? If anyone knows a good case that would go with this the help would be nice.

    I have argued the case for amd for "A GAMING" computer for a while on these boards,the main factors being its performance in gaming and cooler running compared to the prescotts,but for an all round family computer that will be used for all kinds of multimedia apps the intel is prob the better choice,do a few searches in the forum search you will soon find opinions,mostly for amd as its games people want thier comps for.

    The case all come down to style,"you have to live with it" and price "you have to pay for it"post a few different models,they really need to have at least 2 120mm or 3 80mm fans in though

    :)

    I have found this case which I have pretty much decided on. It comes with 3 120mm fans and has an optional 4th along with a 80mm fan option for the video card.

    Also according to Toms Hardware the intel clocked faster on most games but used more power.

    AMD = better because less expensive for similar models
    AMD = cheaper 64 bit capabilities
    AMD = cooler
    AMD = better, just 'cause.

    With that all said and done,

    I want to highly praise the Cooler Master Centurion case. I just got one in the mail from Newegg today... I am seriously amazed at what I got for around $60.

    i just looked at all AMDs on newegg and this is what I got out of it. Amd cost 50 dollars less. Amd is slower. Amd is less reliable. Intel clocks higher. Intel comes with a fan. Intel uses more power.
    And remember i am NOT overclocking.

    really nice case,quality make also with antec,its designed is similar to the old and soon to be new again btx design with the powersupply at the bottom and motherboard at the top,this is great for removing hot air straight out the top of the case,the only drawback is the power supply will also pull air from the bottom ideally you want it to suck in air,if you have another 120mm sucking in air it should be fine though.

    The basic facts of Intel and AMD are AMD run cooler,AMD are cheaper $192 for the a643200,$239 for the 3.2 prescott newweggs prices,the AMD will beat the intel in gaming,172fps for the a643200 winchester"the venice is slightly better performing",152fps for the 3.2 prescott in dx 9.0 farcry

    http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041221/cpu_charts-15.html#directx_9

    The intel beats the amd by 20 secs in video encoding,although the venice core is faster now at video encoding,so do you play games more or encode more is the buying choice.

    Also AMD navigate windows faster,there is no test I have seen only my bare eyes and what other people have seen when jumping from two machines,

    :)

    My final question, hopefully, is is the 2mb cache pentium 4 worth the extra 50 bucks compared to the 1mb cache? I really dont have a choice on AMD or Intel.

    yeh my bad I shouldnt have argued amd's case :rolleyes: ,I'm not sure how much extra performance it will give i'v just done a search I cant find any performance comparisons,some amd chips are rated faster only because they have a larger cache,if true in the intel world it may be worth the extra $.
