I believe there are some programs that would help me work out exactly what is in my PC?

At the minute I know roughly every component, but not the brands, exact models, exact numbers etc

And as I am about to start upgrading, it would be better to know what im upgrading from :).

    Thank you.

Edit: sorry if this should be in software, was unsure.

There is another one that I like. System Information for Windows. Shows everything you could want to know about your machine. The others are good too. Just a matter of preference.

    Thanks.
I looked up my motherboard and it says
"IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 950, DirectX 9.0 and Max. shared memory 224MB"

What does max shared memory 224MB mean? Is it limiting my 512MB graphics card or is this irrelevant?

    Second question is:

I was going to upgrade my 2*533MHZ 1GB sticks to 2*1066MHZ 2GB sticks but my motherboard will only support 533 or 667, is it worth upgrading from 2GB to 4GB or is going from 2GB/533 to 4GB/1066 much better?

It would be a big help on question 2 if we knew what mobo you had.

If running a 64bit version of Windows, you wouldn't see the full 4GB that would be installed. 32bit would probably be OK. I would probably(myself) just install 1 1GB and 1 2GB for a total of 3GB. And I would stick with the 533.

If you're interested in getting more RAM, here's a link. www.crucial.com "Scan Your System" or use the "Crucial Advisory Tool" on the page. It'll tell you exactly what specs you need.

A 32 bit will not "see" over 3.5 GB of RAM
