I'm a little unclear about the problem. Do you mean that you can't find the option to set your printer to spool? If so I use a HP printer too.

start > control panel > Printers & Faxes > right click the printer > choose properties > click Advanced tab > tick spool print documents.... > click apply > click OK.

I'm sorry if that wasn't your question. I would reinstall as a last resort. There are many things that you can try first.

    1. Okay...I mis-read your post. First search your computer for spoolsv.exe. If that isn't there then you need to do a sfc /scannow.

    2. If you do have spoolsv.exe then first, you should make sure that you're driver isn't corrupted. Uninstall the printer and restart your computer. Then look for driver updates.

    3. Now, if everything above is okay click start > run > (type) NET START SPOOLER. That will start your spooler service.

    4. Once you spooler service is started. Goto start > run > (type) services.msc > (double click) Print Spooler, and set it to Automatic > click apply > OK.

Hope this Helps! Sorry about the confusion.

I know everything else but sfc/scannow?

    Confused?

spoolsv.exe is a protected system file. Sfc /scannow should replace it, provided it finds it corrupt or missing.

Ok but how to run it?

  8. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

    From a cmd.exe prompt.

    Just type:

    sfc /scannow

You will need your XP CD, most likely.

Also, go to regedit and locate your Spooler folder:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Spooler

Please tell me, what is different from my values, vs. yours?

If start or type values are missing, or corrupt, it will make the service "disappear" altogether.

Are you familiar with what autorun is?

Thats what the CD did when inserted. It has absolutely no bearing on sfc /scannow.

  17. Tlecuauhtli

    Tlecuauhtli Private E-2

I know what an Auto run is..but Why is it asking me for a CD ROM?

  18. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

sff needs a CD when it scans. Its loading dlls and such into the dllcache so that it can check the integrity of your files.

  19. Tlecuauhtli

    Tlecuauhtli Private E-2

Exactly ,but after that what do I do>?

  20. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

You wait for it to finish and see if it helped.

    :)

IF sfc /scannow is disappearing on you as soona s you type it, then you are probably running it from a run prompt, which is not the way to do it.

    Tlecuauhtli Private E-2

Ok, good news its that its not disappering and its asking me for my disc so now what?

  22. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

Is your CD in the drive still?

Assuming it is, use regedit and navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Find the values for sourcepath and servicepacksourcepath and post back.

Your sourcepaths are fine. D:\ is acceptable if that's where your CD is located.

Remember that you need to be logged in as the Administrator to perform this operation. And do not put the CD into the drive until you are prompted to do so after starting the sfc /scannow proccess. Sfc.exe will ask for the CD when it wants it.

Also, after this you will need to reboot, reinstall updates, and maybe defrag. Good luck!

  35. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

    Reinstalling updates is not needed.

    sfc /scannow preserves all updates.

The point was to provide me information, which you never did. I wanted to know the difference of your service vs. mine, which does work. I asked you back on page 1. The sfc fiasco has been for over half the thread, and probably isn't going to fix it anyway.

WTF? is not something that sits well for me. No guesses here, I had a (most likely) definite answer, but the information I requested was not provided to me.

At any rate, download this file, unzip it, and then double click it to merge with your registry.

Reboot, and check your spooler service.

Tlecuauhtli, you need to stop jumping all over the place, going back and forth, etc. in this thread and follow the steps as suggested. sfc /scannow is from what I can see a moot point and the thread has gone back to what was asked of you in post #10, which was followed up on again in post #46 where Adrynalyne uploaded a zip file for you to merge with your registry.

To avoid further confusion and frustration please continue from below and respond accordingly.

Now, assuming you have completed this step, what specifically was the result? If you encountered a problem with it, please state what specifically it was so you can be helped further.
