So i need a new/smaller lappy to tote with me on the bike (pedal-cycle) and i was looking at this....

Has anyone got one or used one, and would you recommend it?

If not can you recommend a similar size and priced one?

One last question..... i need this with me to be able to burn a few Discs on the go, so will it be a simple "plug and play" job with an external burner? as all my former lappy's have had internal burners i'm not sure what to expect :|

There's an NC10 a few feet away from me, been used pretty hard since purchase some 9-10 months ago, does everything asked of it, the owner would buy another tomorrow. I've used it many times and am happy to recommend it. I'm not sure there is a better 10" netbook on the market yet - maybe there will be better when Windows 7 is released and makers start selling netbooks with the nVidia Ion graphics chip (the Intel 850/845 graphics on the majority of netbooks is usually their weakest point).

Burning CD/DVD's from a portable (or powered external) USB burner should be no problem.

    Cheers mate.

Im not to keen on 7 tbh, Ill probably keep using XP 'til Win8 comes out and see what thats like.

Xp works for me, infact it works very very well!, and i am quite partial to the old addage "if it aint broke dont fix it" and the epic fail that was vista firmly cemented those beliefs even further :p

Once again thanks for the reply.

I prefer an sd hard drive to a normal one for carting around and low weight. Mine weighs under two pounds.
    I own an ASUS eeepc.
My eeepc has three USB ports and so far anything I've plugged in has worked - a mouse, keyboard and CD burner.
If you buy an external DVD burner, be sure that you get one with a) its own power supply or b) two USB port plugs to allow sufficient power to the device or you will end up with a lot of bad burns.
Here are the models of eeepcs

Thanks plodr i'll look into those.

Does anyone know if i will be able to boot from the external disc drive or even usb, as i will need to install my own OS and it has just hit me that this might be a problem?

i have a coworker that has one of the first acer netbooks, and he said he would get another if something happened to the one he has. he has a 9" one, and I don't think they make that anymore.

    :D

Thank you all for your replies, i would still like to hear more about this nc10 though as it is the prime candidate up to now, surely it must have some bad points?

I cant find anything except good reviews anywhere [although i did find one muppet complaining the screen is too small?!?!? wtf!]

Oh and the battery is not the best but none of my lappy's have had what i'd call good batt's and it will be plugged in most time anyway, so it is a non-issue really.

I honestly think that any bad points (other than the Intel gfx chip - and that's common to most netbooks, others have worse) would be down to personal preferences and ergonomics of the keyboard layout (probably it's best feature), trackpad (I always use a mouse) and whether you prefer a reflective screen or not.

The eeepcs can be booted from USB drives or sticks. In fact, quite a few owners have other linux distros on USB sticks and sdhc cards so they can try other linux distros to see what they prefer.
Of course you can buy the eeepcs with either Windows XP or linux currently. Maybe windows 7 will be an option in the future.

I have my own nLited copy of XP_PRO thats tweaked to near perfection and has allsorts slipstreamed into it, If a 'puter wont load it i wont own it :)

I use Ubuntu & Red-Hat aswell but i wont be needing them on it, it's just i've never had a 'puter without a drive in it before i was quite flummoxed when i realised, as ive had many issues in the past booting from usb's.
