Has Wsus Offline Gone Mad?

Hey everybody,

I just went and downloaded the Windows Updates for my new Windows 7 computer, and I did it with WSUS Offline Updater 11.1 (freshly downloaded since my old WSUS was version 7 or 8 or something).

And WSUS downloaded for hours and hours and finally came up with a 2.6 gb iso file! And that was security files only, plus the c++ and frameworks stuff.

Last time when I got the updates for my old xp it was only about 900 mb.

I then went and dusted off the WUD Windows Update Downloader (since some nice guys put together new ulz files with updates up to Feb 2018). Not that I'm too keen on any updates. My old xp had not seen any new updates since 2012 and was none the worse for it.

WUD shoveled around 900 mb onto my hard drive. Which I considered acceptable.

(I think I'll go with the WUD files. Which means that I'll either have to create an .iso myself or go with that NTLite thing to install.)

But what on earth had WSUS been downloading? I thought it only collects the barebone security files, no other crap? WUD shouldn't be too bad and had relatively new uls. I cannot believe it missed that much, certainly not anything very important.

You should not need it.I just did a full format on my laptop.And it updated just fine.

 

I think the difference is WSUS downloads every update & WUD filters out the old or superseded updates. Plus WUD is a list of updates created by a person/group, so they might not choose every update?

"Necessary" meaning recommended or critical?
