Hate to go here - But ... Unistaller

I would imagine that many times the forum has been asked about what is the best Uninstaller. I will admit laziness - I don't want to spend hours searching - I am hoping for this thread to be my focal point.

I need to "truly" know what is the best Uninstaller software. I am really guarded against REVO Free Uninstaller because it does not like 64 bit Windows. I have to be so cautious about all these software expenditures; man, they can really stack up. That is why I am most interested in a 'Free' one; unless a 'buy now' one can prove to be the ultimate solution.

I'm sure that everyone has the 'one they use' but there has to be something that will keep me from going into the registry (Win7Pro) even after an Uninstall and find leftover registry items. Even though I thought I had a good choice in IOBit Uninstaller I still found 4 items left in the registry. I don't know - maybe my method of doing the registry search after every Uninstall is the best way to do a full really good uninstall.

Old adage is: anything that's good requires work. Maybe a thorough Uninstaller simply cannot be found or never will be able to be programmed.

    Open for discussion.

    Thank you,

    Dekade

If you are going through the registry after every uninstall looking for proof that Iobit or Revo didn't remove every last trace you have a serious case of OCD my friend. Leftovers are harmless and occupy a miniscule disk space. Get a life :-D

Unfortunately, no free uninstaller is as good as the commercial ones. The secret is to use the uninstaller to install the program.

Revo Uninstaller Pro is available as a fully functional 30-day trial.

Ashampoo Uninstaller is available as a fully functional 30/40-day trial.

Both support Windows 64-bit and have a price of just under $40.

I am using Revo Uninstaller Pro in Windows 7 but have yet to use it to install/uninstall a program. In Windows XP I have used Ashampoo Uninstaller since 2008 to completely uninstall trial programs. It's perfect. Create an Ashampoo account and you will receive email notifications of special offers. I often get offers of up to 75% discount.

If it were possible to run 10 different uninstallers each on 10 identical computers, you've have no chance of getting anywhere near identical results. Since I doubt we have the same computers, I couldn't recommend what works for me to you. Hope you get the results you are looking for. :)

    Hi Eldon,

    .
EXCELLENT ' bold typeset emphasis'. Very smart overall effectiveness for the use of the program.

"Pro" trial periods - again great suggestions. I had not looked at them close enough to notice the offerings. Thanks again 'ol friend.

Just noticed I had spelled Uninstaller without the 2nd 'n' in the title header.

    I have to share this.

About a week after I installed Revo Uninstaller Pro, I used it to uninstall Revo Uninstaller Free. Guess what? It found orphaned folders, files, registry keys, and registry values.

In other words... you even need a uninstaller to uninstall the uninstaller!

    Hi

Revo seems fine on my Win8.1 x64 desktop but I know that all these uninstallers like Solaris89 mentions is not going to work perfectly so I agree with her on this.

Personally general uninstallers for various apps work well, the exception to this rule is antivirus and malware apps that may need a tool from the developers to remove all the components like Mcafee and Symantec uninstaller tools, TBH if they programmed their apps well we wouldn't need the addition uninstallers.

Regsitry editing is good if you know what you are looking for.
