okay, so i was playing crysis just now and suddenly my music gets all choppy and i get a bluescreen flash, and my computer restarts. this happens sometimes, and it is totally random when i try to starta game.

    the error report says...

    BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : B26373B8 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000008
    BCP4 : B26373B8 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1

I'm going to assume you are running XP. First, go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Start up and Recovery, Settings and un-tick "Automatically restart". This should give you a Stop error code next time the system crashes, possibly making it easier to narrow down the problem. Let us know what kind of error code you get after doing this.

    A few things you can try . . .

Generally, such errors can be caused by audio or video driver problems - have you changed or updated the audio or video drivers recently? If so, try rolling back to an older driver. If not, try installing the most updated audio or video driver you can find. It has been my experience that corrupt or outdated drivers cause the lion's share of problems on a PC.

A bad ram module can also be the culprit . . . there are memory testing programs on this site that can stress-test your ram.

Actually, there are a myriad of possible causes - even a USB device (like an external drive) can cause such errors. Heat can also . . . make sure all your heat sinks are dust free and the CPU/GPU fans and system fans are clean and working.

ok, i got up this morning and found my computer to be at a blue screen.

    i wrote it down:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xbad0b148, 0x00000000, 0x805bb45e, 0x00000002)

EDIT: I don't think its any external USB devices, I unplugged all my unnecessary ones 4 days ago when i posted this. the only USB device that is currently attached is my mouse and...D'OH! webcam...i guess ill unplug that now.

That sounds an awful lot like a RAM problem to me. Try running Memtest 86+ on it overnight: http://www.memtest.org/

It could be the nv4_disp.dll causing you to bsod. I have had nv4_disp.dll make my pc BSDO before.

RAM could be also a issue.

Sorry so long in responding. I agree with collinsl - sounds like RAM is the most likely culprit. You should stress test your system RAM, and any RAM that is built into your video card. I don't remember if memtest tests video RAM or not - but if not I'm sure there is an application on this site that does.

If the RAM checks out ok, then:

--it could be a corrupted NTFS volume. Go to "Run" and type in chkdsk X: /F /R (where X: is the letter of the hard-drive windows is installed on, usually C ). Hit return, and in the command window that pops up opt to run the check on re-boot. If there is a corruption problem this will attempt to repair it.

--a software related problem. Have you installed any software suites lately? Sometimes software can install a system service that gets corrupted for one reason or another. If you have, uninstall the software and see if this corrects the problem.

Let us know how it's going

The page file is a part of the hard drive which stores virtual memory. Also called the swap file. And the non-paged area would most likely refer to the RAM. Could be a RAM issue. It (I haven't actually seen this) also could be a problem with the drive -- possibly the filesystem or even a bad sector on the swap file.

I'd recommend upgrading graphics drivers and running the memtest and checkdisk on it.

Edit: Just realized I just said what everyone else did :-o dang
