First, am I in the correct section? Have no experience with a Chromebook and so far it seems to be like a Smartphone or Tablet with a large screen (16") and keyboard (15"). Bought one at Best Buy to replace my wife's Toshiba labtop that crapped out after two years.

Second, I probably need to talk to an experienced Chromebook tech. Best Buy/Geek Squad only has one tech, called "Snipe", who only makes house calls at $85/hr. Everyone in the store hasn't a clue.

Please tell me who I can post to. I have a wireless printer problem.

    Thanks.

I currently have an HP Deskjet 3050A J611 printer that is on my local wi-fi network. My two Win7 PCs use it successfully to print. My wife had a Toshiba running Win7 that developed an intermittent failure problem making it totally unreliable, so I went to Best Buy and purchased a current Chromebook. Appeal was price and appearance.
I've spent the last five days working on it, as time permitted, to get it to run three simple apps, which is about all my wife needs. Email, some Browser bookmarked sites and a little document prep.
Got email, both gmail and att.net addys working and I was able to export to a thumb drive a HTML file of her Firefox bookmarks. Can't import it to Chrome, but she can click on the file entries and Chrome will go to the web site.
She needs to print the documents and could not "attach" the network printer. Attempts to get help from Chrome User forums yielded either suggestions, that did not work or other posts about the network printer "problem" were not even answered.
It seems that there are only a few printers that can be used by Chromebook and they come from the manufacturer "Chromebook" ready. I couldn't find a list of those printers. One list that was apparently a year old listed printers that were discontinued.
All of what I've found out about Chromebook printer "attachment" has come from searching the Internet. Talking to people at Best Buy and Geek Squad was a waste of time. Nobody in the store had a clue and knew almost nothing about the Chromebook they sold me.
    1. I'd like to confirm, what I suspect, that there is no way to print from a Chromebook to my current model printer via the network and maybe not even if I attach it via the USB port on the Chromebook.
    2. Be given the model of a reasonably priced printer that is Chromebook "ready" and easily accessed via my wi-fi network so I can either buy one or not I not have my wife save the documents she needs to print to a thumb drive and have me print them with on of my PCs
    3. Or take the Chromebook back for a refund (I have 10 days left to do that) and try to find a "real" laptop that has Win7 installed. I'm not ready to try to transition to Win10.

Thanks for any suggestions or even better a solution. I thankfully appreciate the patience required to address this problem which will probably require an experienced Chromebook user.

Thanks so very much. I have only had a chance to quickly read over the info on those links, but I've gone from despair to excited about getting the printer to work.
I'll post again with the results, later today. It's 8 AM Eastern right now and I haven't had my first coffee yet :)

    That didn't take long.
    Bad news, good news -

Reading through the Google instructions -

If your printer is not listed, your printer is not cloud-ready. But if it can connect to Wi-Fi, you can set it up with Google Cloud Print.
My printer was not listed, so it's not cloud-ready.

    Reading further -
    Connect a printer that’s not cloud-ready
Important: To set up this printer, you’ll need a PC or Mac computer. You can’t use a Chromebook.

    Show stopper! :)

Pressing on to the "Best Printer for Chromebook Comparison Chart"
#3 on the chart is an HP Envy 4520.

Now on sale at Best Buy or from Amazon for $59. Almost sounds to good to be true.
I should know by this afternoon.

All of this confirms what my work over the past few days told me. If the printer is not cloud-ready and manufactured to be attached to a Chromebook, you are out of luck and can't use it with a Chromebook.

Thanks to Eldon and Major Geeks for pointing me in the right direction to get a solution.

I've always counted on Major Geeks and they have always come through. I should have posted this days ago.

Well, after following all your advice and talking to the Geeks at Best Buy when I bought that (Chrome ready) printer, I have been unsuccessful in getting it to print a document or even a test page from the Chromebook. That was a good printer, it installed itself on my wi-fi network and I had no problems printing from either of my PCs.
So, I'm just getting back from Best Buy with all my money back. Returned the entire lot!
I'll be using that refund to buy a re-conditioned Dell Latitude E6520 Win7 via eBay from an experienced re-conditioning outfit. It comes with a 60 return policy and a one year complete warranty.
I am happy, happy today. Looking forward to dealing with a machine that works and one I understand.

    Thanks for all your help.
