Have lost use of my keyboard; how do I get it back

Had to type this with the windows 0n Screen Keyboard

 

Thanks. I also lost my mouse this morning. I rebooted and somehow was able to get into Safe Mode, and in Safe Mode my mouse and my keyboard were back. And I now still have them back in normal mode.

Last night I was following ehow advice and trying to re-enable my keyboard by going to My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager. But Device Manager was no help because my Keyboard disappeared from it. Now it's back. I am really puzzled as to what caused this. I have been pretty free of malware lately, but of course nothing is impossible.

 

You have not told us anything about your computer, the keyboard or mouse. Is this a PC or notebook? Wireless mouse and keyboard or wired? If wireless, have you checked the batteries? Also, if wireless, interference from other nearby electronic devices can cause problems.

 

Sounds like HAL is messed up. If USB devices, then could also be a bad USB driver for that machine causing this problem. Without more info on this machine, how old it is, really hard to diagnose.
