    Hi,
My friend asked me to do some work on her ibm laptop and I obliged. I upgraded her xp to service pack 3, upgraded her windows media player to 11, removed bearshare and 4 toolbars and other spyware type programs, ran superantispyware which removed 78 threats and ran malwarebytes which removed 4 threats. Somewhere in the process I lost access to the internet...when i click on internet explorer it tells me it cannot display the webpage. She has a wireless stick which was working earlier in the day, but now says "strength good" but also "acquiring network address". I try to connect through my wireless router and it says "strength excellent" but also shows perpetually "acquiring network address". I try to connect directly with LAN and it says the same thing. I have gone to the network properties and made sure TCP/IP properties were set at "obtain ip address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically". I have tried "repair" on them but it always gets stuck on "renewing you IP address". I have gone to the LAN setting on Internet Explorer and checked "automatically detect settings" and still nothing. I have run the Winsock utility to no avail. I have gone to "services" to make sure DHCP client and TCP/IP Netbios are started and set to "automatic". I tried a system restore and after that got error messages whenever i tried to use Internet Explorer or Windows Explorerer and couldn't run them.....also got really buggy so I reversed the system restore....and i still have the same problem of not getting on internet. None of the network adapters have exclamations beside them in device manager. Basically, I have tried everything that people suggested on the internet and still have the problem. If anyone thinks they can help I would really appreciate it, because I am going out of my mind. Thank you.

    Hi again,

I just wanted to add something I just found. I went to Superantispyware to see the quarantined items and one of them says "Trojan.DNS-Changer (Hi-Jacked DNS)" and then show 3 registry items.

    Hi again folks,

Update: I found a system restore point that worked and got the internet back. My problem now is, when I try to remove all of the malware and trojan horses again with superantispyware I lose the internet again after they are removed and I restart the computer. So I had to system restore again. Obviously whatever is being removed is also removing something I need to get internet. So my question becomes: how do I remove all of these adware threats without losing my internet again? Thank you for any help you can provide.

    hi folks,

Update: After I restored the computer to it's previous state I went through the process of removing the malware etc. once again. I suspected that superantispyware was the program that removed the TCP/IP info the last two times, so I decided to use spybot search and destroy and malwarebytes first this time. This eliminated about 95% of the infections from the computer. When I finally got to using superantispyware there was only a few infections left to get rid of and superantispyware did this successfully without me losing the internet this time. There were 2 toolbars that I could not get rid of: max en toolbar and another radio toolbar. It wouldn't let me uninstall them, so i just disabled them from internet explorer. Everything has been running great since. Thank you.
