Motherboard is a Oem Dell Zermatt with a Phoenix Rom Bios Plus Ver 1.10 A06. Can't find a update from dell or anywhere. Computer works with XP professional... I've read that I need to go to dell site , but they only have my current version.

    First... welcome to MajorGeeks.
Second.... I'm not real clear on what the problem is. Is the PC running OK? It boots into Windows XP without any problems? Or do you have a BIOS issue? Your post title says "no bios id string"... try flashing (if needed) with the current version available from Dell. I seriously doubt you'll find another BIOS for that board anywhere else.

Thanks for your reply. My current bios A06 has these 3 options to boot: floppy, hard drive and pnp. I can't cold boot from cdrom. Can't seem to locate an update for bios . Optiplex Gxi 5200Mtbr. Dell only has my current bios. It's an oem mb. need to cold boot in order to use programs that are on my EM multitask utility suite cd. [Eddiemaintenance]
It's a great program and has worked on every system except the Gateway w/ service tag 9vpgp. Any suggestions?

Explain what pnp boot means. I've only seen network or flash drives as other boot options.
Do you have a floppy drive?
