I have recently switched from AVG free to AVAST free antivirus program.
In order to work out which one I like better I want to have both on my computer and use either of them week about. Would this cause any problems?

It's OK as long as both are not running at the same time as that would probably slow you down alot or even lock up your system. I've been running AVG free for many years and haven't had any issues in XP, I'm running Avast free on Vista and haven't had any issues either. Take your pick, they're both decent and are updated daily.
